http://www.wjactv.com/news/news/sources-1-trooper-shot-another-injured-blair-co/nTcf5/ It's like the world's worst Advent calendar.
Yeah - because, whether intended that way or not, I took the mention of the Advent Calendar as a joke. A joking about shootings is in poor taste (not judging, because it may not have been meant that way, and I've made plenty of jokes in poor form). Sadly, I almost wanted to smirk, but I couldn't.
Okay, good. It was a joke in poor taste (deal with it), but at least you weren't thinking I was implying that it was a X-tian thing or something ridiculous like that.
Only one or two dead, and they're all of sullied skin color? These days, it's not just bleeds-it-leads... the standard it higher now that there's blood every day. Higher body count is required. And they need to be younger and whiter than before to make the headlines. If I sound cynical, bitter, and disillusioned by blood-based journalism, it's because I only communicated half my disdain, disgust, and dystopic vision of the situation. What I feel about how the media treats violence borders on having to make up words to show how angry it makes me.
I can deal with it. Like I said, I'm guilty of jokes in poor taste all the time. I'm not easily offended, and I'm not one to call people out for bad jokes (I don't call people out in a serious way - I'm guilty of them all the time, so I don't judge). It's that line of, "Oh, I kinda wanna chuckle, but man, I'm probably a bad person if I do." I like to live in that area, and that's where you joke fits.
Thanks for understanding. It was meant as funny-sad, by which I mean a funny way of conveying a sad feeling. The funny part is (as always with me) very hit-or-miss, but it's just how I've learned to deal with tragedy (personal or otherwise). I understand it comes off as tasteless, but it's just how I've communicated sadness for years now. I guess I haven't learned good-laugh from bad-laugh.
Drive by's are also usually not random senseless violence, its usually one bad guy who has a beef with another bad guy so they settle it by killing eachother. In most cases the average person doesn't give a shit if a gang banger drug dealer is murdered, its more along the lines of one less scumbag for the rest of us to worry about. You do hear about drives by though when some cute innocent 10 year old is caught in the crossfire. I have a feeling that for the next few months you will hear about every gun related incident though.
http://data.baltimoresun.com/homici...use=all&article=all&show_results=Show results That's just Baltimore. I don't know if any other cities keep detailed statistics like that...
Because no innocent random people are getting killed. Generally its gang members shooting at one another and its a part of the lifestyle they've chosen.
Easy now. That's a big generalization. I'd say many drive-bys are calculated, but you have a lot of random drive-bys where innocents are injured.
The perfect Drive-by, when done correctly, results in the death of a scumbag and the imprisonment of another scumbag. Neither is news.
