<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Wolves veteran Antoine Walker said today the team offered him a low-ball buyout offer on his contract and that this season has turned into a "terrible" situation for him.

“I just want to play,” Walker said. “Obviously they’re rebuilding and obviously I’m not in the future plans, so I felt like maybe there was an opportunity for me to leave. They wanted money back that I wasn’t willing to give back. It didn’t work out that way. We’ll just have to play it out, six weeks, and then we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Walker said the buyout offer “wasn’t even reasonable.”

“It was way off the charts,” he said. “It was ridiculous, actually.”

Walker wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the offer. He also said he’s no longer interested in a buyout, contrary to a report. Walker had to be bought out and placed on waivers by Saturday night to be eligible for another team’s playoff roster.

“There’s no point,” Walker said. “I can’t join a playoff team. I don’t want to take a buyout just to take a buyout. We’ll work on it in the summertime. That’s not an option for me anymore (this season).”

Walker said he will keep practicing hard and stay in shape as the season winds down. He said he likes his teammates and wants them to succeed. But he considers his situation unfortunate after being traded to Minnesota from Miami in October.

“It’s like a wasted year for me personally,” he said. “I didn’t want to be put in this situation. I was afraid of this coming in. It’s turned out to be a terrible situation for me. I’ve just got to keep working.”

He said he will wait until the summer to see what happens. He’s hoping to be traded to another team where he will have a significant role. Walker’s contract has one more guaranteed season, so he understands he could be attractive in a trade for a team trying to gain salary cap relief.

“I’m assuming they’re going to do something to move me on,” Walker said of the Wolves. “I probably will be a little bit more attractive in the summer. I understand the business part of it. I’m in the last year of my deal. I’m just upset. I didn’t come in here wanting to get out. I came in here wanting to play.”</div>
