Stars owner Tom Hicks on Tuesday denied a report in the Toronto Globe and Mail that the Stars are among six teams that needed a cash advance from the NHL of revenue-sharing or television money that typically is given to teams in October.

Asked by e-mail if the Stars had received money from the NHL, Hicks wrote: "We did not. We received advances from our banks."

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed Hicks' statement: "Tom is right. The Stars aren't entitled to revenue sharing, so there is no revenue sharing to 'advance.' There is no money owing from the Stars to the League."

The Globe and Mail reported the Stars were among six teams that needed advances, also citing Atlanta, Phoenix, Florida, the New York Islanders and "maybe" Tampa Bay.
