I'm afraid that he has become the odd man out on this team, and it shouldn't happen like this. If you look at the young guys, they're getting their options picked up and getting extensions. We haven't seen theis with TA. I know part of it is the case, but do you really think we're going to keep all these young guys? I'm afraid that TA will just be some throw-in in a trade and we're going to regret it. The fan base takes Allen's services for granted. His defense is more valuable to this team than most think. I would rather trade Green, as his value in the market might just be higher anyways.

Well, for one, Ainge said he is not making any decisions until his legal case is cleared up (which will take place in October). He has until October 31st to pick up TA's option, and the case is set to be before then. So, hopefully all goes well (it will, he's a pro athlete and he didn't kill anyone - he'll be home free).

I also agree that most of the fan base takes Allen's defense for granted. He was in position for a breakout year last year if he didn't have knee and legal issues before the season started. He had a monster summer league too.

But - I wouldn't necessarily rather deal Green over Allen. In fact, I would rather keep both. I would rather deal Wally, because Allen's defense is far too valuable to this team, and Gerald just has way too much potential.

But we'll just have to do what we have been doing all summer long - wait. Ainge did, however, say that if Allen was charged or whatnot that he would not pick up his option. But, like I said, he's a professional athlete and he didn't kill anyone. He'll get off.

    EDIT: typo

Tony is one of the most imporant players on this team because of the energy he plays with and his tenacity. IMO not picking up his option would be stupid. It certainly seems like he is the odd man out, and Ainge definitely has some HUGE decisions to make regarding which kids to keep and which kids to trade away. IMO Allen is one of those keepers, especially since this team's weakness is defense.

Even though im a OU fan and TA went to OSU, big rivals. Ever since Allen went pro, I've been hoping for the best for him. Personally I wish Celtics would trade Green, maily to give Allen a chance. Allen is a very athletic ball player and works hard at everthing. Yeah he has his downs....not the best shooter. But only being 2 years into pro, he has plenty of time to improve as an athelete. In the future I would like to see Allen help out the Boston franchise

I agree. You guys have too much depth. It is really hard for you to fit him in for PT now.He is a great player. He can shoot, slash, and play defense. He is an ideal role player for the SG position, and I wish you could find the guy more time.

He's a great player to have on your fantasy team because he contributes with steals, rebounds, points, and there were numerous games where he stole the ball five times per game and really boosted my team.

he may not have very good off-the-court behavior, but he's not a bad teammate. He was put in a very tough position asked to play the back-up PG, but he played pretty decent at it. I can imagine he's never played pg in his career, and to play it at the pro level would be a very tough transition. He wasn't very good at first, but he adapted very well. He may be a sloppy ballhandler, but he always pushed and had some nice setups and such. In the Chicago situation, I think part of it was Tony just not knowing any better. After this whole dilemma, with the court, and he may not get an extension for it, I hope he's learned his lesson.

Since when has Tony Allen had a good jumper? It's improving, yes, but it's far from good.

For one, he's not a b*tch at all, and he's NOT a bad teammate. So he got into a bad situation in a bar or whatever, but he's not a bad kid and he's not a bad teammate. He's a good one. He works hard, he never causes any problems, and he contributes to the team MUCH more than the PPG or RPG show.

Two, he's behind Paul Pierce obviously, but he's not reall competing with Gerald Green for minutes. Tony is way ahead of Gerald on the depth chart right now, Gerald isn't ready, and Allen can play better defense with his bad knee alone than Gerald can with his whole body. And why not add Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West on the list of guys he's competing for minutes with? They are both ahead of Gerald too.

And lastly, TA only had one 5-steal game this year from what I can remember, so he didn't do it numerous times.

he's had a few games of 2 or more steals and blocks. but his man-to-man defense is much better than stats can show. The energy he brings is unreal. Perfect example: against the Hornets, Tony swats the hell out of the shot, runs the floor, and gets a dunk on the other end. a 4 point turnaround in about 5 seconds. That game was huge for him (his confidence) imo.

I think teams often overlook the contributions that these role player types make. For exaample Seattle lost jerome james before last season and they went from a contender to the lottery. It is a danger for sure when you start trading away the old, important guys on the team. I hope they Keep him!

first of all, the sonics weren't contenders, they were a pretty good team. secondly, jerome james leaving didn't have much to do with it. The sonics just had a random good year and it went away. Also, losing mcmillan was bad for them.

Oh yeah man, I remember that game. TA finally showed us signs of progression that night. After the swat, he showed a LOT of enthusiasm and he was jumping up and down and screaming. That was the 1st time he did that all year.

I really would hate to lose Tony Allen. His defense, intensity, energy, and heart is so valuable to this team. Plus, once he gets back into the swing of things (hence this full summer, plus training camp) his athleticism will be back. If we didn't have so many wings, Tony Allen's numbers would be higher than some would think. I think TA is an excellent young player, and if we don't pick up his option, I wouldn't be very happy. Like I said before, I would rather deal Wally than give up Tony Allen - any day.

I remember him screaming after that block like it was yesterday. wasn't it in one of the Cs commercials?I honestly think that if Tony Allen would've been healthy all last year we would've made the playoffs. He may have only missed the first 1.5-2 months, but he wasn't healthy until the last month. He really is that valuable to the team in my eyes.

I went to the Chicago Bulls/Boston Celtics game at the United Center last season and Tony Allen was signing autographs for the crowd. I got my basketball signed by Allen and then a kid around sixasked"Hey are you Tony Allen" because he wasn't sure if that was him and he wanted to get his basketball card signed by the right player. Allen walked right past the kid and ignored him and the kid started crying because Tony Allen ignored him and that must of ruined that kid's day.

and that makes him a bi*ch? alot of players don't sign any autographs, that's not a big deal at all. and I don't know how you got him being a bad teammate out of that.

I'm not saying he's a terrible teammate but he's not a locker room player that's a great leader. He's gotten in trouble with the law numerous times and the only time I've met Tony Allen he left the wrong impression on me and was very rude and I think that carries over to the locker room.

Tony Allen has been in trouble with the law numerous times? I have only heard of one incodent, and all he did was yell "F*ck him up!" He doesn't have a history of getting in trouble with the law. And if he does, PLEASE back it up with some facts, rather than just exagurating on ONE case.

And you THINK he carries that over to the locker room, because you saw him once? Don't judge a book by its over. Look at Ricky Davis - his attitude was completely the opposite of what it was in Cleveland. How about Zo? He comes off, on the court, as a mean guy due to his flexing/cockyness and the looks he gives. But he is probably the nicest guy in the NBA, and very inspirational.

You are knocking on Tony Allen because he doesn't have leadership qualities? You could say that about more than half of every team in the NBA. Tony Allen wasn't a born leader, he is a high-energy player who plays his role very well. And sure, maybe his vocal leadership skills aren't there, but just by going out there and sparking the defense is influencial enough for this team. He's still very young, and he's only been through 1 and a half seasons in the NBA mixed with a knee injury and that stupid off-court issue (not plural). He was never expected to be a vocal leader on the floor, but his defensive pressure sets the tone.

Tony gets along GREAT with his teammates. He hangs out with Delonte alot from what I've heard.
