I saw him play against the Hawks, and he didn't really stand out to me, as a real productive player..
He's a good athlete and a decent shotblocker, has a jumpshot but has a lot of injury problems. He only plays because they don't have much inside.
Tony Battie is a decent inside player, nothing to special and gets pretty good minutes with the Orlando Magic. He is a nice shot blocker on the defensive side of things, on offense he doesn't ruin the flow of anything for us, and can make the shots, allthough he is not a scoring presence. What makes him most valuable to us, is the veteran leadership he provides for our young low post players in Howard, Milicic and our rookie Augustine. Lots of times the coach's use him alot during the game to show Milicic from the bench, in particular where he needs to be positioned at, and how to alot of things work.
Tony Battie never was a guy to stuff the stat sheet, but he's one of those guys that do all the little things that coaches, teammates, and fans love. Like valo said, he's a shot blocker and his veteran leadership is very valuable. He leads by example by working very hard, he's a mentor type of guy, and he doesn't care what his role is as long as he contributes to the team. He's athletic, a very good shot blocker, good low post defender overall, a pretty good rebounder, and most importantly a true hustler. He's a great guy to have around, and any team would like a guy like Tony Battie (hell, I REALLY miss him in Boston). But as for playaofthegame being concerned about his minutes, he is and has been the starting center in Orlando. Darko may very soon take that over, but as of right now he's still the starter, and he was for most of last year as well.
