"Jorge Cantu and Hanley Ramirez have come through with plenty of clutch, run-scoring hits for the Marlins throughout their careers. They just couldn't do it Wednesday night. Given a golden opportunity to be heroes yet again, the Marlins' No. 3 and No. 4 hitters failed to deliver with the bases loaded in the eighth inning as the Giants pulled out a 3-2 win in front of 11,633 at Sun Life Stadium. Sergio Romo, who gave up a late three-run homer to Dan Uggla on Tuesday, redeemed himself by striking out Ramirez on three sliders before getting Cantu to bounce into an inning-ending double play. The bases-loaded, no-out situation wasn't the only scoring opportunity the Marlins missed out on Wednesday. After rallying to load the bases in the ninth with one out, Chris Coghlan and Wes Helms couldn't come up with the clutch hit needed off Giants closer Brian Wilson. Instead, Wilson got Coghlan to bounce into a fielder's choice and Helms to swing and miss at a high fastball to end the game. A night after being one out away from a win in the ninth, the Marlins (13-14) left knowing they were one big hit away from avoiding another tough loss." http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/05/06/1615518/too-little-too-late.html
