Started too many of these lately. Peter Yarrow died after battling bladder cancer. Born into well to do family, he studied psychology at Cornell but found folk music his true calling. He founded trio Peter Paul and Mary with childhood friend Noel Paul Stookey and Stookey's friend Mary Travers. They scored their first hit with a cover of Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind and a second hit with Puff the Magic Dragon. While Puff was accused of being a drug song, they insisted it was a child's fantasy. The trio performed regularly at civil rights and peace marches and later at environmental events. Stookey had a solo hit with The Wedding Song, written for Yarrow's wedding and still widely used by straight couples for their weddings. I saw them in concert when I was in high school, long time ago. When I first heard it, the closing lines of Blowin' in the Wind gave me cold chills. How many deaths will it take 'til he knows That too many people have died?
