Define "modern", then I can do it.

Okay, for me it's really hard to make the all-time top modern bands.

    Personally:
    1. Sublime
    2. Slightly Stoopid
    3. System of a Down
    4. Coldplay
    5. Oasis

I'll try and think of all-time, but it may take awhile.

I realized that 20 years isn't a good definition of "modern" when I noticed that half the bands I started thinking of (Alice in Chains, Sublime, Jane's Addiction, Rage Against the Machine, etc.) aren't really around anymore.

It's hard to rank bands too. Going by that criteria though, I think my top twenty list would go something like -

    1. Red Hot Chili Peppers
    2. John Frusciante
3-20 (alphabetical). Alice in Chains, Ataxia, The Flaming Lips, Galactic, Gov't Mule, Incubus (pre-Light Grenades), Michael Franti & Spearhead, Oasis (in doses), Pearl Jam, The Raconteurs, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins (pre-comeback), Sonic Youth, Sound Tribe Sector 9, The Strokes, Sublime, Tool

    I'm sure I'm forgetting a few though.

You've gotta love Metallica, but they've been around for 27 years, so they technically don't match the criteria, otherwise I was definitely going to list them. It's crazy to think they've been around that long, isn't it?

Tool I believe will always be my favorite band, though at this particular time I'm not really listening to them. Otherwise it's really hard for me to give you a list because I discover something new every day that I think is better than the day before and that is even better than my "favorite" bands or "favorite" songs. Times change, moods change, and music just creates the backdrop for that. I find these type of lists redundant.
