Vince Carter? He missed over 20 games, and correct me if I'm wrong but the Raptors also failed to make the Playoff's the year I believe. And even so, I don't think he was among the Top 5 in 2002, if anything you can make an argument for him being a Top 5 player in 2001.

Jermaine O'Neal finished 3rd in the MVP voting last year, but yet Peja Stojakovic is on the list? I believe Peja was easily a Top 10 player last season but Top 5 is a little farfetched. If Jermaine O'Neal can't make the Top 5 list then Peja can't.

The Raps actually did make the playoffs that year, but Vince didn't play in the playoffs. He actually had a pretty good season before coming down with injuries. But I agree, he definitly wasn't a top 5 player in that year. For 2001 however, I would put him 4th, behind Shaq, AI and Duncan

For the people that started from 1997 on: Where were guys like David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning? Although they were certainly not young at the time, I'm pretty sure at least one of them was a top 5 player in 97, 98, and even 99.

Seriously though, in 2000 vince was in the top 5 along with iverson, shaq, duncan and garnett. anyone remember the incredible play off performances?

and chris webber was defiantely in the top 5 in 2001, he was considered a top contender for mvp.

i personally think this thread is pretty pointless because everybody's still gonna judge the players by how their impression of them now ffor most of it. plus wats the point of doing 2002-2004, everybody noes its the same 5 players.i think it shud be every 5 years instead off every year

Actually we judge them by their overall performance and success for a certain season.

He wasn't top 5 within those years, probably in 1 or 2 of them but in some he barely averaged past 15 ppg. I still remember when peeps would say that he would have ended up better than Magic.
