Simple, just name your top three actors (or actresses) and why - give examples, etc. 1. Sean Penn Beyond the controversy, tough guy attitude and all round hard exterior, lurks IMO the best actor on the planet. Won a long overdue Oscar for his performance in Mystic River, but it's his portrayal of a mentally handicapped father in I Am Sam that really underlines his pedigree. 2. Tom Hanks Where do you start with this guy? Has the knack of being able to portray any role seamlessly, from the irrepressable Forrest Gump to his role as a man with AIDS in Philadelphia. IMO one of his most impressive performances was in Castaway, simply due to the fact he was on screen alone for 80% of the movie and still made it believable and gripping. Unfortunately Russell Crowe won the Oscar that year for Gladiator, but Hanks already has a pair of statuettes. 3. Cuba Gooding Jnr Maybe a contentious choice here, but I've always been a huge fan of his work. His role in Jerry Maguire as Rod Tidwell was one of the more powerful supporting roles I've seen, he was great in Men Of Honour, but it's his lead role in Radio which really stamps his class. And his Oscar night celebrations rank up there with the most memorable.
This is obviously an opinion based thread, and I ask people to respect that, but anyone who puts Ben Stiller will be suspended immediately.[/list]
Johnny Depp Ed Wood, Pirates of the Carribean, Blow y'all... probably the most versatile actor going around in this day and age. Unlike certain counterparts does not rely on good looks for kudos. Samuel L. Jackson This man simply tears it up in Pulp Fiction. So many quotables. Very solid in everything else. Don't tell me you don't want to see him layeth the smack down in Episode 3. Kevin Spacey He's another in three of my absolute favourite movies, Seven, The Usual Suspects and American Beauty. Essentially he plays the same man is all three roles, but it's the simple tweaks that make him tick - from sadist to manipulator to modern philosopher. Big ups.
1.Denzel Washington 2.Tom Hanks 3.Samuel L. Jackson 4.Morgan Freeman 5.Kevin Spacey ok so thats 5... lol...in no particular order.
Edit: is this our favorites or who we think is the best? Denzel Washington He is almost always the best actor in every movie he's in. Training Day, Remember the Titans, Antwone Fisher, John Q, etc. Josh Hartnett I like the fact that besides his teeny image he still plays in good movies. Black Hawk Down, The Faculty, Hollywood Homicide, etc. Mike Epps Probably the funniest guy in movies. The last 2 Fridays and All About the Benjamins are hilarious.

Jackson 4.Morgan Freeman 5.Kevin Spacey
I forgot about Denzel in my list, he would be up there too. Always loved his no-nonsense approach to acting, and he takes the lead very well in every movie he's in.
1. Denzel Washington 2. Sean Penn - I really don't want to say it, but he made me cry in I am Sam. 3. Tom Hanks

Quoting Mr.Fundamentals:

2. Sean Penn - I really don't want to say it, but he made me cry in I am Sam.
Uh .... ditto.
1. Steve Buscemi - Why do I have to be Mr. Pink? (Resevoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Miller's crossing.) 2. Robert DeNiro- WHO'S AN ANIMAL, LARRY? WHO'S AN ANIMAL? (Raging Bull) 3. John Tarturro (Or however you spell his name)- Great in Miller's Crossing
Deniro for reasons that need not be explained Pacino same thing Penn is one of the most underrated actors as well.. Mystic River was his more recent work, really good stuff.
Edward Norton Very versatile and steals the show in every movie he is in. J. D. Williams Young light skin boy in HBO's "The Wire" and "Oz." No young actor does a better job getting into character. George C. Scott The most intense actor of his generation. He literally made "The Hustler" the classic that it is today.
Another guy who I don't think gets enough credit is Brad Pitt. Sure, all the women swoon over him, but he has a reputation for being a hunk first and foremost, when in reality he is one hell of an actor. Ronin and Snatch showed his ability to act as a different nationality in a very convincing manner, while Fight Club and Meet Joe Black are two of my all-time favourite movies in which he delivers fine performances.
Great pick supersonic..Snatch is a great movie and Pitt killed in it I have stil yet to see Fight CLub but I have heard it was awesome, and I think he was awesome in Troy..but Eric Bana was the better actor in that movie..
Haha Dre I didnt think so but I agreed with Supersonic because I didnt wanna look like a big idiot...I guess I look like one now..but he was in Snatch..

Quoting Dre:

Brad Pitt wasn't in Ronin. I've seen that movie 100 times.
Yeah Ronin was a great Film. You know who's great in Ronin and The Professional? Jean Reno. He's a great actor, I think 90% of men today would kill to be Jean Reno.
Jean Reno killed in Godzilla lol...he was in taht right..now I need to double check before I go with someone else... Ray Liotta is pretty good, especially in NARC..has anyone seen that?
