The facts are that we all want Berbatov to stay and like any club who value their prime assets we are no doubt doing all we can to keep his services. But he needs to show us due loyalty and I would like the man himself, unlike Carrick to say he wants to stay. We do not want to nor need to sell him to raise money. We are not some mid-table team who got lucky but arguably the 5th best team in the premiership and a club who have put in place a structure which is building for success. Now unlike what many on this board think I do not expect instant success and neither should any players we buy. But I do want to see signs of progress which are undoubtedly being shown. But for it to continue it needs loyalty. It needs agents to stop playing financial games but mostly for players to speak up. If Berbatov wants to stay and in my mind he has no reason to leave then he should make that clear. Carrick left and of course won the premiership and is now in an FA Cup final but he joined something that was near completion. For the sake of the game and for the sake of fans who want to see a real challenge to the old guard Berbatov needs to make a commitment in the same way that the club will to him by doubling his money and buying players to supplement his talent. It may take a couple of years but so what. Be part of something that seeks to change and challenge as opposed to something that is already there is all I will say. The premiership needs us to hold onto our main asset.
it has just been said on sky sports this morning that berbatov wants to stay at spurs. chelsea and man united have both been linked with the player but he was quoted has saying he wanted to stay at spurs to keep on playing first team football. but will he stay or will he go ?
