Francesco Totti will almost certainly join the ever-growing Roma injury list on the sidelines, the giallorossi captain now being a confirmed absence from tomorrow's Roman derby.

The talismanic striker has failed to recover from an ankle knock in time for the Derby della Capitale, which the red-and-gold half of Rome haven't won in just over three seasons.

Rodrigo Taddei is now out, too, joining longer-term absentees Alberto Aquilani, Mauro Esposito and Marco Andreolli in the stands at the Stadio Olimpico.

Totti's ankle problems comprise a hammer blow for Roma coach Luciano Spalletti, given that the captain and former Azzurri ace is the club's top Serie A goalscorer - and joint top overall - with seven strikes, one of which was a penalty.

What's more, his recovery is taking a frustratingly long time. After succuming to a knock during his side's Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon, he missed his side's win over AC Milan at the San Siro this weekend in preparation for this match. However, he will once again watch from the sidelines, barring a miracle recovery.

Totti, 31, has been with Roma for his entire professional career, debuting in the league in 1993.</p>
