He's not a closer. You can see the deer in the headlights look when he's out there with the game on the line. I'd have no issue selling him off.
They probably would not have gotten the same prospects in return but they would have been better off trading Betances and keeping Miller.
Disagree with trading him. Agree he is not closer material, but he does have late inning value. And yes, Miller was the best of the 3...........had the most value.
The Yankees are going to have a decision to make this winter. Resigning a Chapman for example is going to cost a lot considering there's simply not a ton of great closers out there. I get it that we were ridiculously spoiled with Rivera so I do my best not to compare anyone to him because we will likely never see something like that again. Maybe for a season or two but not long term. Is Betances just worn down? Or does he just not have the mental makeup once things start unraveling?
...I said awhile back that I don't know if he is tipping his pitches or what but recently it seems that the opposing hitters somehow know what's coming. ...Plus, since he became the closer he's not throwing that 97-98 mph FB nearly as often as he used to, and for whatever reason he's become way too reliant on the off speed stuff. ...I seem to recall earlier that Betances would set up the breaking ball with his FB and then throw Uncle Charlie down and away...not anymore.
I would of rather seen Miller remain, and return. I just never got a warm fuzzy with Chapman's late inning heroics, lack of control in tight situation nail biters, aye. Bless Mo'...!
Chapman is a dominate real deal closer. If the chance is there and they want to spend the money I'd get him back here. There's not many like him in the league.
No doubt Chapman is elite. take your choice- Miller G-63 IP-66 H-39 BB-9 SO-108 HR-8 ER-9 Chapman G- 54 IP-53 H-31 BB-10 SO-81 HR-2 ER-10 Chapman is a thrill to watch, yet makes me nervous more than Miller, why? Just a gut feeling, even with Miller giving up too many HR's; yet AM has the better ERA...esp in YS 1.39; compared to Aroldis 2.01 ERA, in YS....
The thing is Miller is signed so he's not an option. Chapman will be a free agent. The Yankees should be in that mix.
...well, Miller was also signed when he was traded away from the Yanx...no rule that says he cannot be traded back, especially since he's not only a better option than Chapman but will also cost less money.
...I understand that...but they don't have the payroll flexibility that the Yanx do/will. ...not saying it's likely, only that it's possible.
