Staal and Buchnevich for Saad and a 2nd.

Saad clearly is on the way out in Chicago. The salaries matchup for both teams. I'd rather have Saad than Buchnevich on this team. I'm quite sure they will feel better about adding Buchnevich and getting rid of Saad. I'm still not sold on their defenseman over there. Staal could help them. That would free up a spot for Hajek.

Apparently Buchnevich isn't in Quinn good graces right now so he needs to step his levels up. Hayes is someone I'd look to move by Thanksgiving if the team is floundering, though he hasn't exactly started well. I'd say SJ with Thornton out but they have no draft picks the next 2y.

We need to figure out a way to get Nylander from TOR. The only thing we need more than a shoot-first winger is a righty shoot-first winger. He's a great skater, 22 years old and would fit our top 6 like a glove for years going forward. Would they be interested in Buchnevich? They clearly need D, but not sure who else they would be interested in besides Skjei, and I hesitate to do that.

Buchnevich, Lindgren or Rykov, and a 2nd? Doubt that does it. Would they take Staal if we retained? Probably not.

Probably all pipe dreams, but damn he would be a great get for this organization and would look great in the top 6 with Panarin after we sign him next year.

A guy like Nylander is the only kind of player I'd consider trading a first for. 22 and already an established NHLer. I'd even go Buchnevich, Rykov and one of the late firsts for the kid, but I think TOR would want a more ready-now defenseman. Maybe they'd be interested in Staal if we retained enough. Plus we can probably get back that first from a Hayes trade at the deadline.

    Next year:

    Kreider-Zibanejad-Chytil
    Panarin-Howden-Nylander
    Vesey-Andersson-Zuccarello (C)
    Gettinger-Fontaine-Fast

    How good would that be?

I like that but Zucc to me being a smaller guy is starting to show his age. Rather keep Hayes, deal Zucc to somebody. Toronto has to pay Matthews next year. Good luck. Maybe Buchnevich, McQuaid and Pionk. I'm willing to roll the dice that Bigras can step up until Lundkvist is ready. I think that would do it. They have to dump him.

    Kreider-Zibanejad-Chytil
    Panarin-Howden-Nylander
    Vesey-Hayes-Andersson(C)

I saw a report today that Boston has inquired with us about Kreider and Anaheim about Ritchie.

Boston has always had this idiotic fascination with trying to bully their way to a cup. Honestly, they really don't have anything I want at this point. We are already loaded on d and in goal in the farm. They have a couple of young forwards but I don't see them being any more valuable going forward. Kreider frustrates me every year with a scoring slump or two and I think about trading him. Just like I did after 3-4 games this year. However, I'm seeing Quinn starting to bench guys now who are lazy. So, he might actually get through to Kreider who is still one of the top 3 net presences in the game.

Looking at Boston's roster. They aren't a big team. Most of their players are 6'0 or less. Looking at the Rangers, they are a big team. They will get bigger with the addition of Kravtsov, Miller and Gettinger. Andersson is 6 but plays like he's 6'3. Hajek is 6'2 and should be here soon.
