Roy has been my favorite player these past three years. And he truly is the "face of the franchise" but with that said, let me be the first to pose this thought - and seek feedback! [Yes, I know my "trade machine" approach has been criticized - so consider this "just for fun and contemplation" and play along!

If we were to complete a sign & trade with Toronto - sending Roy & Fernandez for Chris Bosh and TO's #1 pick, and sign free-agent Joe Johnson....do we have a championship contenter?

Miller, Bayless, (draft pick), perhaps pursue Ridenour?
    Joe Johnson, Webster
    LMA, Batum, Cunningham
    Bosh, Pendergraph, (Veteran)
    Oden, Camby, Howard

If we could interest Joe Johnson, perhaps ATL would be interested in Pryzbilla's soon-to-expire contract - as a sign & trade scenario?

Teams would have to adjust to our size [look at the rotations we'd have at our disposal with postions 3 thru 5]

Johnson would give us much of what we'd lose by trading Roy & Rudy for Bosh. And we could trade Miller and/or LMA during the season - if need be - to acquire our "PG of the future"

This must be the first time you've seen one of Boomchukalucka's threads? Dude's entire fandom is based on what players on his favorite team he can trade. The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side for this guy. I'm convinced that even if he somehow, some way got one of these trades to come to fruition, he'd turn around and trade the guy(s) he just got in short order. I've yet to see a single post of his that hasn't mentioned some sort of trade. Never. Ever.

Trading B Roy would be the most outlandish thing I could possibly consider, right? Knowing this - I gave this idea a try....and I seriously believe that BOSH + JOE JOHNSON, in lieu of ROY + RUDY, would bring us closer to a Title. I'm not going to try to defend this idea - as it is just that: an outlandish thought. I am simply wondering if ANYONE would consider the possibilities of trading "the face of the franchise." Hmmmm

I'm curious as to why you think Johnson would sign for a paltry 7-9 million, which is what he would have to sign considering Przybilla's contract size.

You'd be smart to trade him for Sasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmar, and DJ Mbenga.

Could be a three-team deal, I suppose. And/or we'd have to add to the deal. Or simply sign Johnson outright. I'll be he'd consider playing alongside Oden, Miller, LMA and Bosh!

More to the point however is the consideration of trading Roy and Rudy to obtain Bosh? I'd prefer Aldridge + Rudy to get Bosh, but Toronto would scoff at adding LMA alongside Bargs (ouch!). Could find a third team interested in LMA, I suppose.

We would be unable to sign Johnson outright - that would require capspace, and we have none except the MLE this summer.

Bosh is better as a dependable second option - he's been unable to carry the Raptors to the playoffs as their first option except for once. This should not happen in the eastern conference, and I would not trade Brandon for him.

Bosh got a serious facial injury at the end of the year. Don't blame him for that.

I don't blame him for his facial injury at all, but to be fair even before that they were choking some games away at the end just to try to hold onto the 8th seed. I just don't think he'll ever be a guy who you can count on as your number one option for a championship or even deep playoff run team. Pairing him up with someone like Kobe, LeBron, or Wade would be amazing for him (of course, it'd be amazing for anyone). Hell, even an upper level point guard would do wonders - I'd love to see him in Chicago with Derrick Rose, who I feel has the dynamic skills to be a number one kinda guy on an elite level - not so much as the like ELITE ELITE guards, but way up there.

Bosh is an amazing power forward, but I just don't think he can be 'THE GUY' for a GREAT team. Like even Brandon will probably have to be the second guy on a championship level team, or have a very, very close number two - which wont be LaMarcus unfortunately (but he will be a nice number three)

That's true he might not be a superstar, but make a top ten list and he's at least hovering around there. What I like about him is his youth, health, and you won't find too many great bigs these days.

He's made the playoffs twice, should have been three but whatever. Yeah he'll probably need to have another elite player next to him but his consistency is what I appreciate, among various things.

Twice? I thought it was only once, after the Bargnani pick. Oooh, I see, I forgot about the year after that. I wonder why that slipped my mind. I do agree that he is consistent, and you will see him near the top ten, and definitely in the top 15. I just don't think it'd be a good idea to trade Brandon for him.

I see him as a better Pau, that kinda not so alpha dog guy that goes to a team with a legitimate I WILL EAT YOUR FACE AND WIN NO MATTER WHAT alpha dog kinda.

ALPHA DOG (third time for good measure).

Roy was remarkable last year so I don't have a problem with building around him. I just think Bosh gets a bad rap sometimes, like Pau back in Memphis. I understand the Pau analogy that's why I defend Bosh from other people. Neither are MVP type of players but they're both pretty special still.

Pau's actually earning more win shares a night than Dirk, he was pretty good this season. Although of course he's not necessarily a number one option like the top 7 (or so) players in the league. Bosh and Pau are at a pretty similar level although Chris is younger and can be a traditional 4 while Pau is more of a 5 now.

So if you would not part with Roy to obtain Bosh in a sign & trade with Toronto - but you WOULD consider parting with Aldridge (if Bosh were to become a Blazer) then it is in my opinion that Toronto would not be interested in Aldridge; however a third team could get involved and this may become a very interesting transaction. Might have to add Rudy with Aldridge to make this work.

    Oden / Bosh / Batum / Roy / Miller

    Camby / Pendergraph / Cunningham / Webster / Bayless

(Howard? Pryzbilla? Veteran? Rookie? to round things out)

Oh, of course you trade Aldridge for Bosh. But there is no way Toronto would do it, IMO, unless we found some funky combination to also rid them of Hedo and other bad contracts. But then Aldridge is probably considered a bad contract as well. Toronto will probably end up trading him for a legitimate center or just prospects and picks, or just to use the trade exception.

There are two reasons I "might" trade Roy and most of it comes down to my big concern about his knees and ability to play at the level he has the next 4-5 years, and I wonder how high his trade value would be because of that. Secondly, what kind of offense and what coach we will have is important. Many of our current players would do well in more of a running offense, Roy does not seem to like that or do all that well with that. So do you trade Roy for a guy of similar talent who fits uptempo a lot better? or do you trade for a few other players who fit better with Roy in a half court offense? A good question I think, but the answers are not easy. and this course IMO has a direct correlation if you keep Nate or not.

I'd trade Brandon for CP3 + one of their bad contracts. A Collison/Roy backcourt would be great for the Hornets, but I seriously doubt they move Paul without him asking for a change of scenery.
