I don't think the Clippers would do something like this unless they were sure Kobe would sign, so I'm a little confused now. I thought Kobe was leaning toward resigning with the Lakers, but I can't see the Clippers making this move unless they know something we don't. By making this trade I read that the Clippers can clear enough cap room to give Kobe the max 6 year, $105 Million dollar contract. So, This stirs up even more questions about which team in Los Angeles Kobe is going to.

I've been listening to sports radio and the majority of ppl here in L.A. seem to believe this move indicates that Kobe is going to sign with the Clippers....

The Clippers dealt forward/center Melvin Ely and guard Eddie House to the expansion Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday.

In return, the Clippers received the Bobcats' second-round draft picks in the 2005 and 2006 NBA drafts.

Yes, it's happened. The Clippers are obviously very confident of their chances at Kobe to say the least. House and Ely are worth much more than two second-rounders IMO.

    idk

This would be sad if Kobe went to the Lakers...Clippers got rid of 2 pretty solid 2nd string players kinda risky but hey if they get Kobe it is worth it. Me being a Laker/Clipper fan I want Kobe on the Clips so they can get better as a team and go to the playoffs.

^^ well, looks like it was sad. Clippers did everything, but still $30 million short.

Looks stupid now doesn't it, a decent backup PG, and a guy that could still help in Ely traded for second round picks.

    Maybe.

But the fact of the matter is, Ely and House weren't players who were going to lead the Clippers to championship dreams. Kobe is the type of player who could. The loss of Ely and House is miniscule in risk to the much larger reward they could have gotten.

Ely and House can be replaced via free agency. But a player of Kobe's caliber isn't on the market.

The Clippers were, IMO, in a low risk-high reward situation. They went for it. I thought it was a smart move.

They didn't land Kobe. Life goes on. They can replace House and Ely now thru free agency. But it was still worth the risk. Because landing Kobe would have been huge........losing Ely and House for a chance at Kobe is a no brainer.
