Car Pool Lanes: They take out a hole lane of the freeway for little use. Causes congestion when the lanes end really badly. SCAM.

Red light cams: I drive faster through these lights because I don't want to hit yellow. SCAM.

Off ramp traffic signals: Seriously, what fucking crack whore came up with this idea? SCAM.

Those red light cams are the worst. $600.00 tickets + court fees + traffic school.

Such a fucking scam. $600 fucking dollars. What a bunch of fucking assholes we have in government and city planning. I have a theory, the city planners were the fucking Hall Monitors in high school. Bunch of controlling nerds, fuck them.

most people don't even try to "run red lights", they just get caught in it I bet.

There was a study.... the cities claim they have the cameras to promote safer driving, but there have been studies showing how the cities have slowly been shortening yellow lights over the years. It's bullshit. If they want safety, why shorten the yellow? There isn't really even a point to having a yellow anymore. Might as well have green, red, and redder.

They should just charge people for driving through intersections. I really hope there is some kind of revolt on these motherfuckers, like V for Vendetta style son! (well, not that bad, maybe some crazy kids with paintball guns)

Yeah I've heard this as well. It's also caused a lot of rear end accidents from drivers slamming on their breaks.

People were used to a certain amount of time on a yellow, but now that it's shorter, they still think they can make it, but they can't.

Car pool lanes suck when you only have one person in the car.

I wonder if there is a way to just trigger the cameras to take shot after shot unprovoked, maybe using a stroblite or something or a laser pointer. that would be funny.

Car pool lanes - I like them because I have to drive North through Portland on I-5 in the evening and I always have someone with me! YAY!

Story from Texas about shorter yellow lights increasing profits.

Do you mean "ON" ramp signals? I can only find studies showing that ramp metering IS effective for decreasing travel time...so I don't think that's a scam...

dunno, we have those onramp lights...for the past 2 months they've just turned the light off, traffic has seemed the same except you don't have to wait behind that fucking light.

Yeah, I think it depends on the time and location. There are tons of variables, but I've lived places with the lights and without, and subjectively traffic seems better where there are lights...I have no real clue though...

The only thing I could find online was in Minneapolis some politician got pissed off, had the lights turned off for 2 months and they measured traffic. Travel times increased by 22% and there were more accidents during the time the lights were disabled.

I'll add a scam for you though:

Those Green bike areas that Portland has painted that allow the bikes to go to the front of a lane of traffic at stoplights...SCAM and STUPID!

I really hate marked crosswalks designed to have cops give out tickets. They need yield lights on all of these things.

Add to the list "Street Cleaning"

The street cleaning trucks don't even clean the road. They just blow all the debris onto the sidewalk or against the street curb.

OK, for another completely random piece of governmental waste...check out the Hondo Dog Park in Hillsboro. They have 3+ guys out there multiple times each week...the level of maintenance is INSANE. That's why they win awards...they spend way more to maintain it than anyone else. I mean, it's a place for dogs to run and take craps...it doesn't need to be maintained like a golf course!

This is also the place that had the "stars and stripes" fire hydrant controversy...

Interesting enough they were talking about these Red Light Cameras on the radio this morning. Apparently the city only gets $150.00 from the $600.00 tickets. There's also a proposal to program the cameras to catch people speeding through intersections.
