PORTLAND, Ore. (April 13, 2016) – In partnership with Sadie Golf, the Portland Trail Blazers have announced today The Schonz Golf Tournament hosted at Langdon Farms on August 18, 2016. Funds raised by the tournament will support the Trail Blazers Foundation and the Harrington Family Foundation.

The Schonz Golf Tournament was organized in recognition of Bill Schonely’s five decades of service to the Trail Blazers and Portland community. The franchise’s original broadcaster in 1970, Schonely called nearly 3,000 games over almost three decades. The man who coined the phrase “Rip City” continues to give back to his adopted hometown as an ambassador for the franchise.

Registration for the tournament is available now at theschonz.com. Each foursome purchased will be paired with a celebrity or Trail Blazers VIP, receive a tournament hole sponsorship and an invitation to the exclusive Rip City Reception on Wednesday, August 17. The reception will feature a special tribute to Schonely and a celebrity auction for the next day’s tournament.

Tournament play is a Scramble format and begins with a shotgun start at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 at Langdon Farms, a premiere Portland golf course and event venue located just 15 miles south of Portland (24377 NE Airport Road, Aurora, OR). Langdon Farms will also host an awards ceremony and dinner following the tournament.

The Trail Blazers Foundation works to improve the lives of underserved children and families in Oregon and SW Washington where they live (the environment), learn (education) and play (sport and physical activity). The foundation gives cash grants to nonprofits and schools to support its focus areas, and has donated more than $1.1M since 2009.

Established in 2003 by former NFL quarterback, Joey Harrington, the Harrington Family Foundation (HFF) has raised more than $1M for students across Oregon, supporting Oregon-based nonprofits dedicated to providing quality education to in-state youth. The foundation strives to unlock the potential for leadership and success within every child.

The Schonz Golf Tournament is supported by dozens of local and regional sponsors, including presenting sponsors Pacific Office Automation, NECA/IBEW, Les Schwab, Safeway and Standard TV and Appliance.
