If people have any interest in the National Football League, they ask, “Is Brett FavreBrett Favre going to play this year?” Most seem to think so, or in the case of the Vikings, hope so. Unfortunately, no one knows for sure, and the silence from Favre makes people uneasy. How is his ankle responding to surgery? Can he run on it? Is he able to workout? Will he be somewhat in shape? To bring the issue closer to home, how is his absence affecting the Vikings camp. Training Camp Some veterans missed many practices. Center John SullivanJohn Sullivan practiced on a limited bases 20 times, because of a bad leg. Receiver Sidney RiceSidney Rice missed all 24 camp practices, because of a supposed hip problem. Running back Adrian SmithAdrian Smith missed 16 practices with a hamstring problem, and guard Anthony HerreraAnthony Herrera missed seven practices. Over half the starters missed over half of pre-season practices. Yes, backups and rookies had more snaps, but they don’t have the need for being in game shape by September 9, for the first game. Yes, this year the Viking’s experienced more pre-season interruptions than usual, but there’s no evidence they resulted from Favre’s absence.
