VITALS: 6-5, 200, Washington OVERVIEW: The All-Pac 10 performer as a senior averaged 16 points and five rebounds, shooting 42 percent from the arc. He set a school record with 80 3-pointers and led the conference with an 87 percent mark from the line. He played at Odessa College his freshman season, scored 28.5 points at Green River Community College the following year, then transferred to the Huskies for his final two years. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: 35-45 in second round. COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Wesley Person COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Casey Jacobsen ROLE PROJECTION: Designated shooter off the bench. POSITIVES: Simmons can fill the basket from long range. At the NBA Pre-Draft Camp, Simmons got into one of his shooting zones and started swishing shots from all over the gym. Simmons has the prototype 2-guard size and he had a very consistent senior season, which included big games against top competition such as Arizona and Arizona State. Simmons is athletic enough to round out his game with good coaching, but his calling card and ticket into the NBA is his shot. SHORTCOMINGS: Simmons played in a three-guard set at Washington that didn't include much size. That meant he was able to set up wherever he wanted to in order to get his shots. In the NBA, he'll have to learn about spacing, using screens and making defenders pay for playing up on him.
