I'm pretty much in love with Trevor Ariza's game at this point. I love what he brings from the bench. He has great athleticism and brings a lot to the table. When he's in the game, he is always really productive. He can score, defend, and is a pretty good rebounder for a small forward. He's gotten a couple huge offensive rebounds for us this season when we really needed them. His game is a bit raw but I think he has improved since last season and will keep improving since he is only 21 years old. I think Trevor is a perfect fit for this team because he can score but he's also a really good defender that has matched up against the other team's best player several times this year. Thank god Otis resigned this kid over the offseason because I can see him starting for us down the road when Hedo is older. Jameer, Dwight, Darko, Ariza, and Redick are all going to be in their primes at the same time which is going to be very scary for the rest of the league.
I agree with everything you said. <----- check it out I'm flat out in love with him. He can have my manbabies. It's not enough that Isiah took away a cancer from our team and gave us money. No, he also gave us a great player with potential to be amazing.
I had the same hope for Ariza when he was a knick. Grabbing big rebounds, being our best defender, and just slamming it on people. Very exciting player to watch. Unfortunately he didnt improve his game the year after and his shot was So-So. I think Brown had a lot to do with this because of the conflict he had and his playtime being reduced. Ariza has a big future.

Nah, Jesus is one of those guys that's either on or off. If you give him clean looks he can get hot, but for most of the time if you keep a decent defender on him he won't be able to get his shot off. He really needs to work on putting the ball on the floor and keeping the defence honest though.
I don't know. I've seen Jesus sometimes where he just looks unstoppable. It's like he's the son of God or something. I mean he could drop 60 on any given night. But sometimes he's a little inconsistent.
I'd say that if Jesus was a little more athletic with more blow-by ability, he'd be easily a top-ten player in the league, but since he relies so heavily on his jumper he's a bit too one-dimensional at times. Anyways.... Since I haven't kept up with Magic games lately, can anyone tell me how Ariza's jumper has been looking lately? Has it improved?
Jesus plays good defense though. He isn't really a drive to the basket kind of guy. Anyways, to answer your question....Ariza hasn't taken that many jumpshots. His jumper is sort of inconsistent but he gets most of his pts by offensive rebounding.
I was just thinking about this so I figured I would bring it up here. Where do you guys think Ariza ranks in terms of most underated players? He has to be one of most underated guys in the league because he can make an impact all over the court. He is a good finisher and is one of our better shutdown defenders. In a couple years Ariza is going to be a quality starter and in my mind, he is incredibly underated. I mean, what seperates a guy like Andre Igoudala and Trevor Ariza? Obviously the dunk contest has helped Andre get his name out there but when it comes to what they bring to the table on a daily basis, I feel they are pretty equal. Igoudala is a player who gets a lot of attention in the media and is one guy who everyone says has tons of potential. I think Ariza has just as much potential as Iggy because he has just as much athleticism and both players are similar in terms of defense. Also, Trevor is younger then Andre so he has even more upside. Do you guys agree?
The fact that Ariza has absolutely no jump shot whatsoever. He doesn't score much, which is why his name isn't out there as much. I honestly would rather his name stay on the DL, so we can continue to keep him for cheap.

I do agree however, that his jumpshot is probably Ariza's biggest weakness and if he can improve that aspect of his game he would be even scarier. <div class="quote_poster">GatorsowntheNCAA Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I honestly would rather his name stay on the DL, so we can continue to keep him for cheap. </div> Very good point. I would rather him be our X-Factor type of player who we can keep for cheap rather than him getting a lot of attention and having teams trying to outbid us when his contract is up. I think Isiah Thomas is really going to regret losing this kid (especially with how bad Francis has performed in his stint with New York).
Ariza lacks the consistency that Iggy has in terms of jumpshot, as well as Andre having range to the three. Andre can also take his man off the dribble and penetrate better. Ariza has a better nose for the ball when it comes to rebounding hence why he gets so many offensive rebounds. If Ariza worked on his ball handling skills and his jumper then yes I can say that Ariza has a better upside. As is though, I would take Iggy over Ariza. Is he underrated? I can't say that he is because I've never known anyone to necessarily underrate him besides Larry Brown. He is unnoticed but not underrated imo.
I'm really interested to see how Ariza steps up in the next two weeks when he will be given a big chunk of playing time due to Hedo's injury. He will be matched up against Shawn Marion, Gerald Wallace, and LeBron James in the next week so this will be a good test for him. He has easily become one of my favorite players and I think over time he will become a fan favorite here in Orlando. The energy he brings from the bench is great and he is a very exciting player to watch because of his freakish athleticism and ability to throw down some sick dunks. The other day, Ariza made a really nice move and drove to the basket. Just for a second, I thought he looked a lot like Tracy McGrady. He is lanky, 6'8", can jump out of the gym and wears #1 for us. Then again, he can actually play defense so I guess that's where the similiarities end.
