Twins manager Ron Gardenhire joked that he might need nine innings from Scott Diamond before the opener of Minnesota's doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. Diamond apparently took him seriously, pitching eight solid innings, and Trevor Plouffe homered to help the Twins beat the Royals 7-2 in the opener of a day-night set Saturday.
