In that contest, the nickname "Timberwolves" was granted as the winner. The nickname was sumbitted 17 different times and was in the finals with the 2nd place nickname, the "Polars". Eventually, 842 city councils around the state chose the nickname Timberwolves as the winner. In all, fans all throughout the state submitted 6,076 entriesfeaturing 1,284 different nicknames. The names of the 17 different entrants who sumbitted "Timberwolves" were placed in a drawing and Tim Pope of Brooklyn Center, Minn., received a trip to the 1987 NBA All-Star Weekend in Seattle for choosing the winning nickname. How the first logo was chosen In addition to a public contest for the nickname for the franchise, a drawing contest for the Minnesota Timberwolves logo was also held. In all, there was over 2,600 different drawings submitted from all over. Some drawings were submitted even from Norway. Eventually, a Minnesota native was chosen as the winner. Club President Bob Stein described as "aggressive, but not sinister." The winner of the contest was Mark Thompson. The first use of the logo was on Sept. 17, 1987, appearing on a $20,000 check donated to United Way bureaus in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
I had some freetime this morning and I saw that some other teams had a thread listing some brief history of their respective teams, so I thought I would do the same. Our history is pretty brief, we havn't been in the league as long as other teams. I recieved the information from the official Timberwolves website. If there is anything that you think needs to be added, feel free to let me know and I can do some research and add it in. Maybe this could be stickied...
I have seen most of that before, and I see one error. Our team colors aren't teal, teal is like a light blue-green, like the font on the top of your post. Our jerseys aren't even close to that color.
