When free agency begins this week, the goal of Minnesota president of basketball operations David Kahn and head coach Kurt Rambis is to sign centers Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovich and to convince a top free agent to ink a deal with the Timberwolves. Most, except Kahn, think the team has no shot at landing a top free agent. "I'll let you know at about 12:04 a.m. on July 1," Kahn told the Star Tribune. "Seriously, not to be funny, we'll know. "I don't want anybody here to feel like we're some poor stepchildren," Kahn added. "We're not. We're building something of great value that will be sustainable. I think we have a chance to have some serious discussions with free agents after July 1." "We're going to get a player," Rambis said. "I feel very confident about that. I'm not positive about that, but I'm very confident about that, a player who will help our team." Kahn has acknowledged that he's trying to trade Al Jefferson and that's his biggest chip to help bring in some top talent. Source: Star Tribune
