Russell earned first team 5A all-state honors as a junior while leading his team to the South State Championship Game. He committed to Mississippi State on April 1, 2008. Russell has the height to be successful in college, but still needs to fill out his frame before he reaches his full potential. Russell has a good arm and a nice smooth delivery with little wasted motion. His feet are very quick and he can move outside the pocket fairly well. Throws on the run very well. Vision downfield is good, but needs to learn to lead his receivers better. Often times, he doesn't get enough air under the ball and his receivers are forced to slow down and wait for the ball.</font></td> </tr> </table> </body> </html>
Tupelo: The Recap | Scout.com <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Mississippi State commitment Tyler Russell appears to have found the pounds Garrett lost. Tyler has added some nice weight to his 6-4 frame. His 205 reporting weight is up from the 194 pounds he weighed back in January at the Scout.com/Under Armour comnbine in Mobile. Russell had another good day throwing the ball and he appears to be gaining some arm strength. His ability to locate the deep ball continues to be one of his best attributes.</div>
