they better load that undercard with a bunch of scrappers to entice the fans. If it's nothing but a bunch of boring fights this plan won't be very effective. Just wiki'ed this card, the undercard looks very solid. Lightweight bout: Efrain Escudero vs. Cole Miller Lightweight bout: Dan Lauzon vs. Rafaello Oliveira Welterweight bout: Paul Daley vs. Brian Foster Middleweight bout: s Drew McFedries vs. Tomasz Drwal Light Heavyweight bout: Eliot Marshall vs. Jason Brilz Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Igor Pokrajac Lightweight bout: Rob Emerson vs. l Rafael dos Anjos
The UFC allows its fans to go online and watch undercard fights on their website for a nominal fee. However, UFC's on-demand service is ass. Sometimes you'll pay to see a fight go black mid-way through, glitch out, have audio sync issues, etc.. It would be awesome if they got to showing the undercard on Spike like they did on HDNet with Affliction's shows.
Commercial free = awesome. HOWEVER, if we're getting the undercard free, expect a short PPV. I doubt they'd replay the same preliminary fights during the PPV as filler between undercard bouts.
I kind of feel for the fans at the live show for this event. There are 8 (?!) preliminary fights. Supposing half of them go to decision, you're talking a decent 2.5-hours before the main show even begins. When we were in Montreal the last time around I think they had 11 or 12 fights, most of them going to decision, and it was exhausting. None of us wanted to miss any of the fights so we didn't get up and move around much. The UFC is going to need a seventh inning stretch with shows this big.
