Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Should know better than to judge a card before it happens but this one really lacks the name brand power that the last one had (Silva, Nog, etc.). Edgar/Maynard 3 (where Aldo fought Florian) and UFC Rio both had disappointing buyrates. This one looks like it will sag even further.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) The entire preliminary card will air on FX. Nuts to you if you don't have it. Hopefully Sportsnet will pick it up in Canuckistan.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) I really think Rumble takes this. I don't think Vitor has that much of an advantage on the feet and on the ground, Rumble should be able to have his way.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Rob Broughton out, Gabe Gonzaga in. Broughton needs to cool off a little, guy fights too much. No point in fighting five times a year if you are going to get cut if you lose too much. Different situation than a Koscheck or Jon Jones. But I guess if you need the money...
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Wow, apparently Paulo Thiago has also dropped out. Maybe they'll put Silva vs. Pyle since they both lost their WW opponents?
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Win or lose, Vitor Belfort remains coach on TUF Brazil. Have they started filming already? Tryouts were last month so maybe not.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Like in other countries, Brazilian fans didn't necessarily ask for a Brazilian fighter in every bout, rather they wanted a proper UFC card with the stars from the promotion, but according to DFW it was impossible to resist the urging he got from the Brazilian fighters desperate to be on the card. I guess once they've done a handful of events there they can stop shoehorning so many locals into the event and just make a normal mixed card.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Should be interesting to see what difference not having to cut all that weight makes for Anthony Johnson. Supposedly this picture is recent.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) Gray Maynard traveled to Brazil to help Jose Aldo prepare. He's working wrestling with the champ. Unfortunately Maynard took the opportunity to say that Mendes isn't ready for the title challenge. Mendes is unhappy.
Re: UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes (Jan. 14) The UFC's track record recently is boss. They are putting on great events.
