Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) Four heavyweight scraps on one card? Arguably five top-ten heavyweights involved? #1 vs. #2? This is already being considered possibly the most stacked heavyweight card of all time, or at least since the old days of the PRIDE GP.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) This card is fucking stacked. I can not wait for this damn card. I booked a room in Vegas the Tues-Fri before this event. I might just stay through the weekend, now.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) Its a cool place to be. If you hang around the MGM you will meet fighters.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) Struve vs. Hunt completes the PPV portion of the card, now an all-heavyweight affair. Hope this card holds up. Five heavyweight fights sounds crazy. Then again, TUF: Heavyweights sucked, as did the all-heavyweight YAMMA.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) This card is fucking stacked. Hopefully it holds up to its paper value.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) Based on what we've seen from Overeem's jaw, I think JDS takes this. He's gonna land in this fight and when he does, I think Overeem crumbles like a load of bricks.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Overeem (May/26) dos Santos & his team have the opportunity to file an appeal or a challenge but haven't done so, at least yet.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) SUPPOSEDLY Mir vs. Cain is still happening meaning Mark Hunt will be the most likely candidate to get the title shot, thanks to an outpouring of support on the interwebz for that fight. And I like it.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) Hunt vs JDS! Dope! I fully expect JDS to win, but it should be a barn burner!
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) There is a NSAC hearing scheduled for the 24th at which Overeem is expected to either launch a defense or an appeal, or both, possibly suspending his punishment, potentially allowing him to fight in May. They haven't done a lot of random drug tests in the past so how this plays out will serve as a precedent. Is there any doubt that they were trying to catch Reem, though?
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) No, there is no doubt they were trying to catch the Reem, and they did. He should not be allowed to fight. What a joke if DFW lets this fight happen. What if Alistair wins and then gets caught up in a lengthy legal battle? You're going to have a to create a interim title. Pull Alistar and give the shot to Mir, Cain, or Hunt. DFW is ridiculous. He always talks about the drug testing and this dude gets popped for being 14:1 and he's still letting him fight pending the commission? Pull his ass out of the fight and give him the winner of Dos Santos/whoever fills in.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) DFW and Zuffa are not serious about drug testing, that much is obvious.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) "I guarantee you if the MLB and NFL had drug testing like we do, they wouldn't be around..." or whatever bullshit he said. On the inside, you know Lorenzo has to be a bit embarrassed by DFW and the way he acts in the media.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) Dana "give the fans what they want" White has said hells no to giving Mark Hunt Overeem's spot. The UFC is looking for loopholes to try and make the JDS/Overeem fight happen. Shameful if it does.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. TBA (May/26) Also, the drug testing solution is pretty simple. Have every contracted fighter send a blood and/or hair follicle sample to a central testing facility once per month for testing. I'm not 100% sure if they can determine the age of samples via DNA testing--if not have professionals collecting samples live. Everyone gets tested a minimum of once per month, unless they are fighting in which case they also get tested before and after the fight. Random urine tests should also be the norm. But the UFC, like every pro league and the Olympics, isn't really serious about it.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Mir (May/26) Overeem is officially out of the fight, probably won't be licensed to fight in the States for some time. So much for that. Frank Mir gets the title shot. Velasquez will get a new opponent but maybe not on this card.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Mir (May/26) This announcement is being met with unanimous disinterest and unhappiness. The prevailing opinion is that JDS will easily knock Mir out. At least with Hunt we have someone who can take a shot and deliver one, too. Plus Hunt can kick. For all the "giving fans what they want" the UFC boasts, JDS/Mir just deflates the hell out of an otherwise intriguing fight card. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hunt moved up to fight Velasquez. That would be good, too. Velasquez is a bit chinny and Hunt isn't a total slob on the mat.
Re: UFC 146: dos Santos vs. Mir (May/26) Travis Browne in the running to replace Frank Mir vs. Cain Velasquez.
