Dave Meltzer (WrestlingObserver) is reporting that UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar pulled about 825k PPV buys. This is short of the 1.2-million buys Dana White trumpeted for the event in the weeks leading into it, but Meltzer's sources indicate that the UFC didn't expect such large numbers internally (which is to say it was a marketing ploy). If these numbers hold up it makes UFC 91 the second largest PPV in UFC history which is a big success for the company. This has lead some to wonder if St. Pierre vs. Penn II can outdraw it. Are fans interested in a real MMA dream match between two of the top five pound for pound fighters on the planet, or are they just interested in celebrity?
IMO MMA fans want to see GSP vs Penn II more than Lesnar vs Couture.. casual fans and WWE fans, wanted this last fight more.
