The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom

    April 1st, 2009
    SpikeTV (10:00PM EST)

The UFC's groundbreaking reality program The Ultimate Fighter begins its ninth season directly following Fight Night 18. Unlike in previous seasons in which the coaches drafted their own teams, TUF 9 features 16 Finalists from the United States (half lightweight and half welterweight) and 16 from the UK. Those fighters will battle amongst themselves to see who qualifies for the two final teams of eight. UFC veteran Dan Henderson will coach the American side while former TUF winner Michael Bisping heads up the UK team. In the season premier, 8 of the 16 qualifying fights will be featured. UFC veteran Rich Franklin will also appear on the show, as these early episodes were taped months ago, before Henderson and Franklin fought for the right to coach this season of TUF. Franklin and Henderson will both be judging the American fighters.

Re: UFC Fight Night 18: Kampmann vs. Condit (Apr. 1st)

    Notes on the event:

-- Carlos Condit was originally scheduled to fight Brock Larson in the co-main event of the last WEC show, but that idea was scrapped when the WEC decided to dissolve it's welterweight division. Instead Condit was tapped to headline the next Fight Night show while Larson was relegated to the undercard of that same event (in a bout against UFC newcomer Jesse Sanders). The fight will be Danish kickboxer Martin Kampann's second fight at welterweight. Kampmann defeated Alexandre Barros at UFC 93. Carlos Condit makes his long awaited UFC debut in this tough fixture. Condit is on an eight-fight winning streak.

-- Ryan Bader, winner of the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter, faces Carmelo Marerro in his first UFC fight outside of the realm of TUF. Bader's first official UFC fight was the finals of TUF back in December when he defeated fellow finalist Vinny Magalhaes by TKO. Bader faces UFC veteran Carmelo Marrero, who has been away from the UFC since May of 2007. Marrero's UFC record is 1-2 with a smothering win over Cheick Kongo at heavyweight and losses to Brazilian heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga and light heavweight (now middleweight) Wilson Gouveia. Marrero is undefeated in five fights since leaving the UFC.

-- The other Ultimate Fighter winner Efrain Escudero was scheduled to fight at this event but had to pull out due to injury.

-- Juine Browning, another competitor on the eighth season of TUF, will have his second UFC fight at Fight Night 18 when he takes on jiu-jitsu specialist Cole Miller. Miller's last fight was a shocking upset victory over Jorge Gurgel in which Miller caught a tired Gurgel in a triangle choke in the dying seconds of the third round. Miller's UFC record is 3-1 with other wins over Andy Wang and Leonard Garcia and a TKO loss to Jeremy Stephens. Browning's only other UFC outing was a Fight of the Night tilt against TUF teammate Dave Kaplan which he won by armbar.

-- Fight Night 18 features 12 fights but will not show all of them because directly after the event the UFC premiere's The Ultimate Fighter season nine: U.S.A. vs. U.K. on SpikeTV.

I'm looking forward to the first two episodes of TUF much more than the rest. Once they get into the house it gets played out, but the all-business qualifying fights episodes(to date) have been great. Plus I'm a sucker for "Anarchy in the UK" by The Sex Pistols.

I hate Junie, more. Cole was classless after the tap though. That was annoying.

It's the heat of the moment. Junie was talking a lot of smack before the fight so IMO Cole was disrespected first.

I agree, I'm just not a big fan of fighters standing over fallen opponents and talking trash like that.
