A couple of Warriors sources reported a verbal confrontation in the locker room several weeks ago with Baron Davis, who complained to Ike Diogu that he wasn't getting open fast enough.

    Does that tell us anything?

I really doubt it was an argument or anything. Baron is our leader and he is often getting in guys' faces during games to get them to do things right, its not because hes an asshole its more like how MJ used to do it to players on the Bulls. I doubt it was a fight or in any way hostile or else it would have been reported when it happened.

Again, I think this goes right back to the coaching. Monty is never going to be able to reel Baron in. We need someone who is experienced with handling egos, not someone who lets the players run all over him, nor someone like Larry Brown who demands to be the biggest ego on the team. Someone like George Karl for example, he doesnt back down from players but he doesnt demand to be the biggest ego on the team.

Well said -- Mike Montgomery and Baron Davis are like Oil and Vinigar -- that's one of the worst possible combinations Chris Mullin could have come up with.

And no, Montgomery will never reel in Baron Davis.

Take this with a grain of salt, truth is we really don't know what happened.

That's my take, the "rumor" grapevine seems to have taken something routine and turned it into an "incident" aka...a tempest in a teapot. Veterans give rookies advice[IMG] [IMG] so what?

Too bad we didn't get Artest, then we'd soon have direct quotes, public fuss, hostage negotiations, none of this guesswork national enquirer stuff.[IMG]
Now its...see how forced Baron's grin was...he must hate Monty...who is wearing an ugly tie as a signal that Pietrus will be traded......[IMG] [IMG]

Way too early to push a panic button.

First, it's a verbal confrontation happened weeks ago. If it triggered some bad blood between Davis and Diogu, it may be a serious problem, but we haven't seen it happening yet.

Second, indeed Davis is a poster boy for whole Davis-Monty issue, but you have to remember that a lot of players aren't exactly listening Monty right now. There was a Murphy's short comment, and even Monty himself and Elie half way admitted in KNBR that Monty isn't exactly controlling the team fully. It really is a tough job to gain a respect from players. You either get that from NBA experience or NBA accomplishment. But, Monty has zero NBA experience, and his plan didn't exactly rack up Ws either, and that's why Monty does not have a full control over all players. Is it right? Probably not. But, that's just how NBA works...

I think the perfect coach for the Warriors and for baron is Terry Porter

I'd give Mario Elie a chance. He groomed Monta Ellis and had the Warriors running in summer league.

I think hes worth a shot as well but we'd need to put some X's and O's assistants to surround him, he can manage the egos and get the team motivated well enough. He seems to be well respected throughout the league as well.

Elie might be a frontrunner-if a midyear change is gonna happen. Post season, there's a lot more to pick from. That news story did not even imply there was any real tension, the Wiretap added the word "confrontation" in their header, but the original story was vague. Baron has no missing teeth,so I'd guess it didn't get too nasty.......

Maybe we can do the Dunleavy to the bench thing. Make Monty the assistant for a while, and then promote somebody else who has nba experience (coach and player) which is Mario Elie. Either way we keep a good x's and o's guy in the ranks. It's a shame the soldiers would rather listen to the non-com sergeants than the field officers, but that's the difference between college players and spoiled millionaires with egos. Some of these guys should be man enough to listen to the coach, but I guess not. I guess sub 40% shooting on most nights with little passing and cutting + a streaky effort on defense speak for itself as a team identity.
