And so, a new streak of producing first round draft picks has begun for the Miami Hurricanes. Cornerback Artie Burns, who in December announced he was bypassing his senior year to enter the NFL draft, was taken with the 25th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, his selection marking the second straight year a Hurricane has been taken in the draft’s opening night. Last year, left tackle Ereck Flowers was taken ninth overall by the Giants, becoming the first Hurricane drafted in the first round since Kenny Phillips was selected by the Giants 31st overall in 2008. Later in the first round, Indianapolis took receiver Phillip Dorsett with the 29th pick, adding to Miami’s draft bounty. Now Burns can add the distinction of becoming the latest first-rounder produced by the Hurricanes, who have now had an NCAA-best 29 players selected in the first round since 2000. More than that, Burns’ selection marks the first time a Hurricane has been taken in consecutive first rounds since Miami saw its 14-year streak of producing first-round picks end in 2009, a year after Phillips’ selection. - See more at: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...blog/sfl-um-s-artie-burns-20160428-story.html
