Don't confuse the new Ironside with the old Ironside, star Blair Underwood says. "There are three elements from the original," says the actor, who plays the title character in the remake of the Raymond Burr crime drama that premiered in 1967. "We took his name, Robert T. Ironside, the fact that he is a detective and the fact that he happens to be in a wheelchair. Everything else is reimagined: all new characters, new city, new texture, new storytelling, new audience, new expectations." Underwood and executive producers, speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, emphasize that the new drama is not a police procedural, although Ironside and his subordinates do catch bad guys. "It is a crime drama wrapped in a character study," Underwood says. The new series, set in New York instead of San Francisco, takes place two years after a shooting that paralyzed Ironside, who is back on the police force leading a team of investigators. It will feature flashbacks of the shooting and of Ironside's activities before that life-changing event. Read more http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...od-is-on-the-beat-in-ironside-remake/2592783/
