Very touching story, got to respect Carmelo for this <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">During his final quiet moment before stepping on the basketball court, Nuggets rookie Carmelo Anthony paused to give a little love to the first friend he made in this city.Sitting in his wheelchair, Nicholas Owens looked up at the Denver forward and shared a smile as warm as their friendship. One guy is black, the other white. At age 19, Anthony is a superstar on the rise. Owens is an 18-year-old senior at Alameda High School. These two guys met in a local hospital last year. "Want to hear an amazing statistic? Nicholas has had 30 surgeries in his life. That's unbelievable," Anthony said. "My life hasn't always been easy. But it has been no problem compared to what (Owens) has gone through." The cruelest cut of all might have come the week before Christmas, when an operation for a cervical fusion led to complications. The spinal cord of Owens went into shock, paralyzing his upper body, forcing use of a ventilator to breathe, robbing 20 pounds from his 4-foot-8 frame. What really matters most to a man can be determined by how he spends his discretionary dollars. Without fanfare, away from the TV postseason glare, Anthony gently donated a $30,000 gift to Owens on the eve of Game 3 against Minnesota. </div> Full Story
One word to describe Melo: generous. I've heard players donating $30000 to an organization but never to a stranger. I mean he could have used that money to throw parties around.
Nice Carmelo,he is not only a great player but he is a great player it is always cool to see stuff like this.
