I was just sitting here watching the 93-94 NFC TITLE GAME victory over the '9ers & like always it just amazes me how Kevin Smith could psyche out Jerry Rice, and get into his head like no other cover corner ever could in those days. Not only that but Smith also could shut the Ice Man down in single coverage as well. And back then Dallas VS. SF were the biggest of the big games in the NFL, which makes it even more impressive. I know most of you will sit there and say, "Ah, whatever fanboy!" But the footage speaks for itself. I simply cannot stand the fact the the league historians haven't ever noted this (*cough* NFL FILMS *cough*). It's not like it could put a serious dent in the legacy of the greatest wide reciever of all-time. Even the best of the best had at least one nemesis that was a constant thorn in their sides.
Alas, poor pup will probably never get his due for this outstanding accomplishment. After he tore his achillies against the Giants in game 1 of the '95 season he was never the same corner again. Had that not happen I'm most certain his career would've gone on to end on the highest of notes and that might've been enough for him to have had his reputation as the "Rice killer" become common knowledge. But as they say, "would'a, should'a, could'a."

Anyway, that's my two cents. If anyone cares to argue this, then I suggest you do a little research first. Because I've got all the evidence I need in my Cowboys video archive, & I'm chomping at the bits to blurt it out (not in an angry, aggressive way mind you).

I can't imagine Kevin Smith being called "the Rice Killa" In fact, if he had to cover Rice, I'm sure this would have been his game face and the highlight film would have been titled "Chasing Jerry."

Boy, it's stupid how close Kevin Smith came to shutting down Jerry Rice.

Kevin Smith was great before his achilles tendon injury, but he didn't shut down Rice. I have that game on video too and have watched it plenty of times. BF1 provided the stats. This rant was the equivalent of Roy Williams' "we almost scored 40 points". This was wishful thinking on your part.

I am definately not saying he wasnt good. But he is so far down totem, he would be lucky to catch a whiff of Jerry's sneakers
