It's a part of the "silent" settlement with the UO basketball players he slandered when he had his idiotic press conference, during which he booted players as being "sexually violent" when none were ever charged. No school in the country is even admitting those three (Artis/Dotson/Austin), let alone letting them play basketball.
When this whole business went down, the Eugene Register-Guard printed a letter to the editor decrying college athletics because it brought degenerate "hood-rats" to wholesome, middle American towns like Eugene and Corvalis. Sadly, I don't think that attitude is unknown on campus. There always seem to be administrators who view jocks as guilty until proven innocent. Having a school official ruin students' lives without concrete evidence is shameful.
According to a police report obtained by the Oregonian, Dotson, a junior guard, was the subject of a forcible rape investigation stemming from an incident in March. The victim, who admitted she was "highly intoxicated," alleged that Austin and Dotson started to "touch (her) all over" in the bathroom at a party before Austin put his arms around her neck "like a chokehold" and brought her into an Oregon taxi. According to the victim's impact statement report, Austin, Dotson and Artis brought her to an apartment leased by Artis and Doston, led her into a bedroom and one or more of them began to penetrate her. Though the Lane County District Attorney's office opted not to press charges, citing lack of evidence and conflicting reports and actions from the parties involved, the district attorney wrote in an April 14 statement that "there is no doubt the incidents occurred." ... Austin, a recent transfer from Providence College, who has yet to appear in a regular-season NCAA game in his career, is reportedly under investigation for sexual assault in Rhode Island.
Austin was cleared in Rhode Island, and the players don't dispute that the incidents occurred. Since when is having group sex against the university code of conduct? The woman's dad found out about his daughter doinking half the basketball team in front of people at a party, and demanded something be done because he felt shame. Maybe he should have taught his daughter not to have sex with 4 different men in the span of 24 hours, if it upsets him so much.
