Love him or hate him Mike Goldberg has been the voice of the UFC for it's best years. The bombastic catchphrase machine missed last night's event, the first he's missed in forever. Rumour has it new contract negotiations haven't gone smoothly and the UFC is demonstrating that life goes on without him. Is it all over?
Re: Mike Goldberg gone for a while, no timetable for return or explanation of absence It's not a contractual thing. It's not a 'I need time off' thing but it's something he deserves the right to talk about on his own terms. That's what the media outlets are waiting for even though details of the situation are pretty well known by now. I wish him the best. <p> And it's no coincidence, Dana seems so cold towards the situation which is why there's speculation Goldie would not be welcomed back and Anik would be the guy. That could change. Dana's opinion on things change often but Goldie has to do his part, too. -- FrontRowBrian
Re: Mike Goldberg gone for a while, no timetable for return or explanation of absence Goldy has been with the company for about 15 years and has been a company man, so to speak, for the duration of his time. I find it hard to believe the UFC would just cut ties with him so abruptly.
Re: Mike Goldberg gone for a while, no timetable for return or explanation of absence Is this a "personal demons" thing?
Re: Mike Goldberg gone for a while, no timetable for return or explanation of absence Still no word. The way Dana is talking about it, or rather refusing to talk about it, is ominous.
Re: Mike Goldberg gone for a while, no timetable for return or explanation of absence Right now the leading rumour is that it's a forced leave of absence (sent home) but whether it is due to a dispute over a pay cut or potential self-inflicted health problems is uncertain.
Re: Update on Mike Goldberg: rehab for Adderall addiction? 100% reliable website TerezOwens is reporting that UFC play-by-play man Mike Goldberg has entered rehabilitation for an Adderall addiction. Adderall is a stimulant that is frequently abused by athletes, including former UFC fighter Tim Credeur. It is used to treat severe ADHD or to help people increase their focus and concentration, but is sometimes abused due to it's euphoric (stimulant) effects.
Re: Update on Mike Goldberg: rehab for Adderall addiction? "I'm doing well," he said. "Those rumors out there are not true. I'm dealing with a complicated health issue but feeling better and hoping to be back to 100 percent by Jan. 26 (UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago). See you soon." Goldberg declined to discuss his health issue in detail. However, according to multiple sources close to Goldberg, who all asked to remain anonymous, the broadcaster suffered from a severe upper respiratory infection in October. The already-asthmatic Goldberg was then treated with large doses of medication to open the airway and treat the infection. Goldberg's doctor later confirmed that the medication taken to treat the infection in combination with his normal asthma medication caused severe side effects that affected his ability to work, which according to the same sources, was the reason he missed UFC 155. Goldberg is currently being treated to get his health back on track and is approaching a full recovery. http://www.mmafighting.com/2013/1/4...ealth-issue-caused-him-to-miss-ufc-155-denies
Re: Update: Goldy is back http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/...o-broadcast-booth-for-ufc-on-fox-6-in-chicago After a one-fight hiatus due to a health issue, play-by-play voice Mike Goldberg will return to the broadcast booth next week for UFC on FOX 6. Goldberg missed the UFC 155 pay-per-view, news that first was reported by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), and fellow announcer Jon Anik filled in with analyst Joe Rogan for that event in Las Vegas. UFC President Dana White, the day before UFC 155, told MMAjunkie.com he would not give specifics about Goldberg's absence or speculate on when he would return. But on Tuesday on a media conference call for UFC on FOX 6, UFC officials announced Goldberg would rejoin Rogan for the broadcast.
Dana probably didn't want people criticizing him for going to Brazil and questioning how safe it is down there, blah blah blah.
