Re: Breaking: Nate Marquardt fired from UFC at weigh-ins, main event canceled So early speculation is that he came in grossly overweight for his fight with Story. The UFC hates that. Seems like that wouldn't fall under a medical clearance unless the doctors shut him down from trying to dry out any more.
Re: Breaking: Nate Marquardt fired from UFC at weigh-ins, main event canceled Probably a weight thing or a drug thing. The UFC is usually pretty good with injuries and etc and I can't see them firing someone over an injury.
Re: Breaking: Nate Marquardt fired from UFC at weigh-ins, main event canceled New reports in, fighters claiming Marquardt was on weight. Must be something else. Some rumblings that he may have tried to fake a urine test.
Re: Breaking: Nate Marquardt fired from UFC at weigh-ins, main event canceled This is going to be one of those wait and see what the circumstances for this "medical removal" from tonight's card is all about. I'm pretty surprised by this as well, but with the exception of the Jon Fitch firing, Dana usually isn't the guy to go kicking people out on impulse. I'm sure the reason will be a good one.
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing The UFC (Zuffa) and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission will not comment on Nate Marquardt's firing beyond saying a medical issue they knew about prior to weigh-ins kept Marquardt from being cleared to compete. DFW has commented a little saying that what Marquardt did was inexcusable for any UFC fighter. Both the UFC and the PSAC are leaving it up to Marquardt to choose to disclose or not disclose what the issue was. So far his camp has not released any new information but has issued an apology for what has transpired--suggesting he will not contest.
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing dude got some aids and did not disclose? or something of the nature? has to be a serious "medical issue" that Marquardt did not disclose which cost him a ufc contract.
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing he's got herpes? hep A, B, or C? (I forget which one is the really bad one, I think C)
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing Seems like more than your average positive steroids test. Sonnen, Carwin, and Sherk have all dealt with steroid busts and stuck around. Thiago Silva had fake piss and tested positive and lied about it before coming clean and hes still around so I can't imagine its being caught with fake piss. Maybe hes been warned before and this was a repeat offense? I know they're serious about making weight but Dana seems to indicate its a moral thing and you'd think they would give him some slack given that its his first fight at 170.
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing I think weight wasn't the issue here, apparently he made weight. I don't think its steroids either, as far as I know, Nate hasn't had any previous offenses for performance enhancing drugs and like those examples BJM gave, the UFC will usually give a guy a second chance for that type of thing, although in those examples they were busted after the event.
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing Nate was suspended in 2005 for pissing hot after his bout with Ivan Salavarry.
Re: Update: Nate Marquardt is the only one who can explain his firing Marquardt will say something tomorrow.

Re: Update: Nate Marquardt will discuss his medicals at 1pm on The MMA Hour Nate says he's been undergoing medically prescribed hormone (testosterone) replacement therapy since 2010. He has a therapeutic use exemption. It allowed him to fight at UFC 128 while the therapy was ongoing. His physician increased his dosages three weeks prior to the Story bout. His test result was above the limit allowed by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission on Friday and he was not cleared to fight as a result. Basically a variation on the same excuse Chael Sonnen used.
I would love to see the UFC release a list of fighters on hormone therapy. I think people would be floored. Probably similar to the number of Olympians who are supposedly asthmatics.
