<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Based on Cody's strong comeback, Ravens officials expect him to not only be ready for training camp but also to play an expanded role in their defense. Cody, originally slated to be a pass-rush specialist this season, is on track to play outside linebacker."He can fit into a larger part of our plan if he is able to continue on the path that he's on," linebackers coach Jeff FitzGerald said. "It's not like we're looking to wait a year for Dan to figure it all out. The plan is if Dan Cody is ready to go, then he's going to play football. I'm very optimistic that he's going to be able to contribute on first and second downs."Without a second legitimate safety, team officials have projected that the Ravens could start four linemen, four linebackers and just three defensive backs (two cornerbacks and one safety) - a formation that would allow Cody to get on the field as a starting linebacker.</div>http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/footbal...sports-footballGreats new. I can't wait to see Cody on the field. Our defense also looks awesome on paper.-----------------------Reed--------------------------Rolle------------------------------------McAlister--------Thomas---Lewis---Scott----Cody-------------------Suggs----Ngata---Gregg---Pryce------------
yeah why in the hell would we run a 4-4? Thomas and Cody are both pass-rush specialists so who would cover slot receivers? I'm guessing we'd play single man on the outside with Rolle and C Mac and have Reed cover slot receivers while the OLB's cover TE's and pass rush and Lewis and Scott worry about the FB and RB. I think we should try this out before the season starts and try it for a couple of games before we set this whole defense in stone. It could shape up to be dominant or we could get burnt on a lot of big plays. I'm down for taking a risk at this point.
It's basically a 46 defense but to use a 46 or 4-4 as a primary defense, I think will get you burned in pass coverage.
4-4 D? That sounds amazing againts the run, but yall better get 2 safeties or 3 corners on 3rd downs.

This is the Defense that was made famous by the 85 Bears. Usually your middle linebackers or your outside linebackers (depending on the play) play deeper then normal so that they are more of a force in the passing game. If your defense has the personell to pull it off it can be unpenetrable (And when you have McAlister, Rolle and Reed, and a middle linebacker like Ray Lewis, they do have the personell to pull it off.)It could be a very scary defense to face next year.
Also, remember who we have against the pass, Rolle, Reed, and McAlister. Not saying the won't get burned once in a while but the are all one of the top players at their position. I don't think it will be as bad as some are saying it will be.
McAlister had a down year last year. He seems to be on the decline after his new contract.Rolle is getting a bit old. He's not close to the threat he once was.Not saying they're bad but just need better play from them than last year.
They also had very little in terms of a pass rush last year to pressure the QB. That should change and make things alot easier on them.
