Ndamukong Suh has said that he wants to be in training camp on time. The Detroit Lions obviously want him there on time as well. But will the negotiations on his contract drag on too long for that to become reality?

Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News updated the situation on Wednesday, with some additional nuggets from Roosevelt Barnes, who represents Suh.

"A player like Ndamukong Suh hasn't come along in many years, so it's hard to say anything about what has happened in the past and how much impact that would have as a reference point," Barnes said. For instance, it's not expected that they will use Matthew Stafford's deal from last season -- or Sam Bradford's from this season -- as benchmarks. Then again, those are franchise QB contracts, and it's hard to fathom the Lions giving a bigger financial package to a defensive lineman -- no matter how talented -- than to a man expected to be the long-term face of the franchise.

The Lions are set to begin training camp practices on July 31.
