Podolski has played a lot of left forward/left wing, especially for Germany. Even when he's played up front he likes to peel off the the left, so that's where I see him lining up.

I don't really like this signing because I don't think he'll score much, but I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

He's got to be a better option than Chamakh/Park, and with Arshavin gone we could use the depth.

Re: Arsenal closing in on Podolski?

Per Mertesacker, a Germany team-mate who moved from Werder Bremen to Arsenal last summer, told German television on Wednesday that Podolski had been asking him about life at the Emirates. "He has been very interested for the past few weeks," Mertesacker said. "He has sent me a number of text messages, and I have told him this is a great place to work and Arsenal are an amazing club."

Looking at that lineup I just don't see where Mario Götze would fit in, unless we'd relegate Walcott or Arteta to the bench.

Wenger: "We are interested in all the best players in the world. Podolski is one of them, so that's it."

Podolski has reportedly passed a medical for Arsenal today, clearing the way to a summer transfer. Heck of a boost, IMHO. Now the pressure is on Song & RVP to sign-on and I think both will. I suspect we could still use another depth signing seeing as how we're likely to lose Benayoun and I would love to get another experienced player. We have enough 21-year olds, now it's time to start bolstering the team with experienced 26-30 year olds who will help us win matches.
