Help me understand something, if you will. USC loses 10 scholarships each of the next 2 or 3 years....right? If that's the case, that leaves them with 15 total scholarships to offer for those years. Yet for this year, they have 16 commits. Now I know commits doesn't mean actually signed, but it's odd none the less. Are they just planning on making it so the kids feel like they have to sign ASAP, or lose out?
Each FBS team is allowed to have 83 players under scholarship. USC is to lose 30 of those over the 2011, 2012 & 2013 seasons. Just how they lose those scholarships is unknown, but I suspect thru attrition as they please. That calls for a lot of walk-ons by 2013 and then a mega huge freshman class for 2014.
I'm not really sure whats what, but I've read some stuff and here are some of the angles that may or may not hold water... Early entry guys don't count against this year's class. JC guys might count differently as well. Lastly, USC has appealed the sanctions hoping for reductions in penaties. In the meantime they're carrying on as if everything is normal. They'll cut into the cream of their crop if and when they absolutely have to. STOMP
