On paper it looks like his hires were decent, Shaka Smart and Charlie Strong. But I would not exactly consider either one part of the "good ol boy" club. And Texas football fans are not patient. Especially with Baylor, TCU, and A&M all stepping it up.
There is literally NO REASON for Texas football to be down for this long. The talent in this state alone, and the prestige that University has is all but unparalleled.
I like a good Steve Patterson firing as much as the next guy, and more than most, but if this helps Texas football, or for that matter the state of Texas in any way, then I'm a little bummed by it. Here's hoping they strike out on their next hire.
Heard them talking about this last weekend down there. Was whoreing myself out in Austin! So much talent, but their football team is a mess! They just moved around a bunch of coaches after that big loss to Notre Dame! Sent from my Baller-Ass 5.5" iPhone 6+......... FAMS
Texas needs to figure their shit out. I think Charlie Strong was the right hire at the wrong time. I don't think he has much time left.
From what I heard, it sounded like Steve Patterson was treating UT like a business trying to make a profit. Cutting coaches tickets to games in half. Changing the policy for faculty to have free tickets, to instead only getting 20% off. Boosters hated him.
