Utah Invites G-Mac to Camp

Gerry McNamara has accepted an invitation from the Utah Jazz to participate in the team's preseason training camp, according to McNamara's agent.

Bill Self, of SAGA Sports, confirmed Tuesday morning that McNamara had been invited to Utah's training camp.

McNamara played at Syracuse University from 2003 to 2006. As a freshman, McNamara starred on the Orange's 2003 NCAA championship team.

Since graduating from Syracuse, McNamara has played professionally both overseas and in the United States, but he has yet to make the roster of an NBA team. He signed with Olympiacos BC of Greece in 2006, but left the team after playing sparingly in the first five games. He finished the 2006-07 season with the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. McNamara averaged 10.8 points and 5.2 assists for Bakersfield.

He returned to Greece at the start of the 2007-08 season, signing with Panionios BC. He played in three of the team's first four games, but was then released. He later signed with BK Ventspils, a pro team in Latvia. He spent the remainder of the season with BK Ventspils.

Utah opens its training camp on Sept. 29.
