Six people were killed and others were injured Tuesday after a Metro-North commuter train struck an SUV on the tracks north of the train station.

The National Transportation Safety Board has taken control of the train-SUV crash scene where six people died and 15 were injured Tuesday.

A "high priority" for investigators will be talking to the train operators, officials said Wednesday during a briefing at the scene where a Metro-North Harlem Line commuter train struck a car just north of the train station.

"The people who operate the train have been through a lot of trauma," Robert Sumwalt, NTSB vice chairman, said. "We have to wait until they are in a condition when they can talk to us."

He expects those interviews to start in the next 24-48 hours.
