In all fairness to Van Gundy though, the team this year is much different than the team from last year. The only thing the same is Haslem, Wade, and Shaq. Riley is better for a high priced, high ego, veteran type team. Riley has the swagger, and the past experiences to be able to go head to head with any player on that team, and put them in their place. If it is a young team of players, like three years ago when Wade first came into the league, Van Gundy may be the better coach. Don't forget, at the beginning of that season Riley was the coach, but stepped aside because i think he had doubts about being able to do anything with that team. Van Gundy came in and got those young players to unite and play at a high level of basketball. That season they really didn't have a superstar on the team, Wade was still young and not yet a superstar, Butler was young and quite frankly will never be a superstar even though he is very good, and Odom was coming off a dissapointing time in Clipper land. I think Riley struggles with teams that don't have a superstar or two on them, while Van Gundy can coach a team like that and get them to have moderate sucess.

If Stan Van was coaching us the whole year instead of the many games he actually didnt coachy. I think we would still be where we are. Stan was just a great coach for the Heat. And, when we lost him everyone said Miami had no chance of winning it. And, now look we have a 50% of getting the title.
