I like Jeff Van Gundy, I think he's a good coach with a kiiler defense system. But the thing that seperates him from most successful coaches (Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Greg Popovich etc....) is that he doesn't give enough credit to his players after wins, and dwells way to much after losses. Instead of a positive attitude to encourage his players, he always looks and talks like he's on the verge of depression . I think that dumpy attitude wears off on his players (especially rookies). We all know that the Rockets season was a HUGE disappointment. But I must say even through injuries, they played hard every night and didn't make excuses. The reason they lost so many games isn't because they didn't execute (as Van Gundy would say), it's because they didnt have enough talent to compete on a consistent basis. That's the main reason right there. So for Van Gundy to harp on the players is bogus. I'm sure they're all disappointed at the season. But how about a "Hey guys, don't get down on yourselves, we had a terrible season but let's work hard and bounce back next season". Instead Van Gundy has this "End of the World" pesimistic approach that gets very annoying after awhile. Even in the game, you almost NEVER see him pat his players on the back and tell them good job I'm not saying fire the guy, but that's one thing he definatley needs to work on next year. That and a more uptempo offense.
