QUOTE (Akron Beacon Journal)

In an interview with a Spanish-language Web site Marca.com published Sunday, Anderson Varejao made his first public comments since the end of the season. He believes there have been inaccurate reports about his contract demands and his physical condition.

''I have seen the news on my person and on my situation and it seems to me absurd much of what is said,'' Varejao said, via a computerized translation. ''The details, the amounts of my contract, the suppositions, they are not correct. I have been training here in Brazil twice a day during the pre-Olympic tournament, the preseason and now the regular season. I desire for my fans and the team to know that I want to play and that I want an agreement that's fair for both parties.''

There have been various reports about Varejao's contract demands and whether or not he's in shape. The Beacon Journal has reported that Varejao's side asked for a deal averaging $10 million per season the week before training camp. Since, the sides have both countered and are closer together but still far apart. The Cavs are believed to have presented Varejao with contract offers of different lengths, the minimum being three years and the annual average between $6-$7 million.
Source - Akron Beacon Journal

If you ask me, that amount is pretty fair for both sides and Varejao should accept and get on with it. He might try to push for more money, but I don't think Ferry should stretch beyond $7.5 million. Varejao is not worth that.

Yes a very fair contract for Varejao. He'd be making similar to what Gooden is making, and Gooden is starting for the Cavs. I think Danny Ferry needs to send Big Z a gift basket because of the way he's been playing. If Big Z was struggling, Varejao would have a lot more negotiating power.

(took the ESPN Daily Dime Worst Performance Award).
This contract is more than Varejao is worth. He should definitely take it.

Very fair offer, Its not as if he has any untapped potential. Varejao is being plain greedy.

I spoke too soon: Ilgauskus just had a 11 pt, 15 reb game. pretty impressive if you ignore the 3-11 FG.

Doesn't Varejao basically have no leverage anymore? With that being said, I wouldn't offer him more than 5 million, which is basically the MLE. There are no NBA teams out there who are in a position to offer him anymore than 5 million per year. He either takes the 5 million deal, or gets paid nothing and stays home all day or goes overseas. I personally feel that a MLE type deal is fair for both sides

I think what he's been offered is fair, but this potential trade for Marbury will give him a chance to get more than he is worth. Firstly because that is the nature of Isaiah Thomas and secondly because for the trade Marbury + Balkman + Jones for Hughes + Varejao + Jones, Varejao could get paid around $7.5 million for the trade to balance.

Aside from it being the Knicks, who overpay for everyone, what the hell would they do with Varejao? They've already got Curry, Randolph, David Lee and Jared Jeffries. Granted AV is better than Jeffries, but I don't see any reason to pay a guy $7.5M per year to be 4th big in the rotation.

I agree with everything you just said and desipte not being a Cavs fan,I am glad Danny Ferryagrees as well.

Of course, it's easier to like them when I don't have an emotional attachment to them winning and losing.

I'm pleased they're taking a stand even though I do have an emotional attachment to them winning and losing. They shouldn't overpay for egotistical players who think they're better than they are. Simple as.

So... this is the point in the conversation where I, as a Bulls fan, suggest you'd be happy signing and trading him for Ben Wallace
