another PF who will want more than 15 mpg.. as a person he strikes me as a less annoying Birdman. If Joel was the asking price in a big deal.. then someone like this could be a good big to be a F/C
Lol! Bring Floppy doo to Portland? Beats the hell out of me. I just always wondered how many of those calls he got because he was teamed with Lebron. He always plays hard though, and his game is grunt work, which we need.
I'm not a huge fan of AV. A backup frontcourt of AV and Joel would be nice on defense, but totally jam up the paint on the offensive end. Either way, I've been saying this for weeks when it comes to guys like Millsap, Boozer, AV, etc. These guys want more money and minutes than we can give them or they are worth to us. We need to spend our money on a starting PG who might play 30 minutes a game, not a backup PF that is going to play 12mpg.
AV wants big money. That's why he opted out. He's going to get a surprise in free agency, and I doubt we're going to get him.
Why not? He's a banger type powerforward based on hustle. Isn't that why we want as a backup PF? I'd like him, but he'd cost more than we'd offer.
Earlier in the thread... A guy like Bass is a better fit, would take less money, is more willing to accept a backup role at 12mpg, and is less likely to become a pain in the locker room.
...he brings a lot of intangibles that are crucial for a back-up bench player to bring to a CHAMPIONSHIP roster, hmmm
He wouldn't play that many minutes so we wouldn't get that horrid combination for more than a few minutes a game.
What like you didn't learn from the horrible few minutes a game while Frye was here? Comon man. If all we do is exchange one bad fit for another, it sucks. When Frye was in there was no post game, and no hustle. Now we would have hustle, but no offense, not even the outside shot. Varejo can only score when completely set up for it. The other thing I would be concerned about is his flopping. He got away with it in Cleveland a lot because he was teamed with Lebron James. I am not so sure that would go over if he played here, because of the double standard of NBA reffing.
Frye's problem was that his "strength" didn't become a strength. His shooting abandoned him, and he couldn't do much else. That's why he failed. Varejao actually has some post game. He plays with hustle all the time. Could that end up abandoning him here too? Possibly, but in theory he fits.
