<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">VINCE CARTER OR RICHARD JEFFERSON, NETS: With Isiah Thomas's checkbook privileges apparently revoked, this may be the midseason that the team across the river is the one making the big splash.

I've been arguing since Nenad Krstic went down that it was time for the Nets to consider a major makeover. If they go that route, trading Carter seems the easiest way to do it since since he's in the final year of his contract. As far as possible partners, Orlando makes the most sense — the Magic could use Carter's Bird rights to re-sign him and still keep Darko Milicic this summer, Grant Hill's expiring contract can offset Carter's in a trade and give the Nets cap relief, and the Magic have several good young players who could be part of the ransom.

But one sage in the know advised me of a different possibility — trading Jefferson, whose cap number is much easier for other teams to match. It would have to be the right offer (i.e., one involving Kevin Garnett or a similar wattage of superstar) because the Nets would be risking losing Carter for nothing in the off-season, but don't automatically presume that if the Nets blow things up, Carter's the first one out the door.</div>

Seems like Hollinger thinks that RJ or VC will be one of the most likely players to be traded this season.

It's just speculation. I don't think he has any inside info or anything.

It's just speculation like durvasa said. Of course, like I said before, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the them was dealt. The Nets have won two games, but it's not like they are an elite team. Against the Spurs, they would get crashed.

IMO, I would trade away Carter. I just feel that giving him away instead of RJ will benefit us in the future.

I hate to double post but I just saw this.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">John Hollinger has been saying it's time to blow up the Nets and rebuild in time for the team's arrival in Brooklyn in 2009. In a New York Sun column Wednesday, he says the easiest way is to trade Vince Carter or Richard Jefferson before the trade deadline. One possibility he suggests is a cap-clearing deal with Orlando sending Carter to the Magic for Grant Hill.</div>

I may want Vince out, but he is worth more than that.

Well, that move wouldn't be for Hill. It would be for Hill's gigantic expiring contract, even though I too feel VC is worth more than that.

Yeah I read that too. We would be getting ripped off if we trade Carter for Hill straight up.

I don't really put much faith about anything Hollinger writes about the Nets.

Getting cap relief is kind of useless this offseason, since there aren't that many big name free-agents.

It's not cap relief, just luxury tax relief. There is a difference.

Someone mentioned an interesting trade propositin in Chad Ford's chat session today.

Jason Kidd to Dallas for Devin Harris + Jerry Stackhouse (expiring K) + Austin Croshere (expiring K)

This would give the Nets a young combo guard and $15Million in cap relief.

Interesting, but from what I heard Harris is close to untouchable. They are playing great, so why would they risk their chemistry? Of course Kidd might be the piece that they need in order to a win a ring.

Now, would the Nets do it?

No way I do that trade. Harris is good, but he'll never be as good as Jason Kidd now.

Kidd in Dallas would be a great situation for both parties. But I don't know how the ball will be divided between Kidd and Terry. I don't think that would work unless Jason Terry will slide over the 2 spot. I don't see Kidd coming off the bench or playing less than 35 minutes. That would just be wasting Kidd.

Either Terry gets traded to the Nets, or he would slide over to the 2 spot.

Kidd wouldn't be coming of the bench, and neither would Terry.

If Terry does, then it might create friction between him and the team.

I doubt they would trade for Kidd, just to see him come of the bench.

Well if Stackhouse and Harris are traded.

Stack house plays 26 mpg, and Harris 27.

53 minutes to be replaced, Kidd could get his 40, with 13 minutes to spare, with Terry maintaining whatever he has been getting so far. Terry could slide to the 2 offensively and Kidd could guard SGs if need be.

Wouldn't it be something to see Kidd and Stack together again and win a ring?[IMG]

Harris is great, but I don't think he will ever be as good as Kidd. Stack is getting older and I don't know if he will play as great as he used to. So I wouldn't do the trade.

They were never on the same team. I'm pretty sure of that, but I could be wrong.
